DELE Language Certification

The DELE Spanish Diplomas are official titles that certify students’ level of understanding and command of the Spanish language.

They are granted by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education, they are the official and international accreditation of a person’s degree of proficiency in Spanish.

The diplomas can be obtained by sitting an examination that tests the candidates’ ability to read, write, speak and understand spoken Spanish. DELE exams follow the internationally standardised levels of competence established by the Council of Europe in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and are held for six language levels: A1-A2-B1-B2-C1-C2.

DELE Preparation Course

The most prestigious and most widely internationally recognised examinations in Spanish as a Foreign Language are the DELE examinations – Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera.

These exams run at 6 levels – A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. With a pass rate of 95% our DELE Examination Preparation Course will give you the best preparation possible for these exams! We will advise you as regards the appropriate exam for your level of Spanish.

The course is run from 6-7.30 pm Monday to Friday (except bank holidays).

Testing your level of Spanish

To make sure that the exam will be the most appropriate for your level of Spanish, we suggest filling in the Cervantes Institute’s level test which will tell you instantly which level you have. It is called the prueba nivel Cervantes. Once you complete this test, you should bring us your result, so our teachers – official DELE examiners can advise you which level of preparation is best for you.

Course duration and textbooks

2,3 or 4 weeks (before the exam)

Students buy their own textbooks.

How long does it take to complete DELE A1 level on this course?

A student who is a complete beginner would need to attend an Intensive Course (20 lessons/week) of a minimum of 8 weeks, followed by a 4-week DELE Examination Preparation Course in order to stand a good chance of passing the DELE A1 Exam. Depending on your level of Spanish and on which of the DELE exams you wish to take, you may or may not need to attend an Intensive Spanish Course at our school before starting the DELE Examination Preparation Course.

At the moment of registration, you will need a scanned copy of a photo ID that includes your name, nationality, place and date of birth. The information provided during registration must match that on the identification document.

Exam Format

Students of this level will have sufficient linguistic competence to engage in situations that require a basic level of communication.

Reading comprehension (45 min.)
Listening comprehension (20 min.)
Written expression and interaction (25 min.)
Oral expression and interaction (30 min: 15+15).

Students of this level will have sufficient linguistic ability to understand a basic range of the commonly simple and immediate relevance of expressions used in the Spanish-speaking world (basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).

Reading comprenhension (60 min.)
Listening comprenhension (35 min.)
Written expression and interaction (50 min.)
Oral expression and interaction (30 min: 15+15)

The DELE level B1 accredits the necessary linguistic competition to comprise the salient points of clear texts and in standard tongue on questions known; describe experiences, events, wishes and desires; explain plans; and justify opinions in brief.

Listening comprehension (40 min.)
Written expression and interaction (60 min.)
Oral expression and interaction (30 min: 15+15)

The DELE level B2 accredits the necessary linguistic competition to understand the main ideas of complex texts dealing with both concrete and abstract topics, even if they are of technical character, and produce clear texts and detailed on diverse subjects.

Written expression and interaction (80 min.)
Oral expression and interaction (40 min: 20+20)

The DELE C1 guarantees that the progress of the student in the language has been a success, and certifies more than an advanced level of Spanish.

This diploma certifies sufficient linguistic competence to:

Understand a wide variety of long, quite demanding texts, as well as recognize implicit meanings in them.
2. Express themselves fluently and spontaneously, without any obvious effort to find the right words.
3. Use the language flexibly and effectively for social, academic, and professional purposes.
4. And be able to produce clear, well-structured, detailed texts on topics having a certain level of complexity, with correct use of mechanisms for organizing and articulating a cohesive text.
