PLIDA certification

What is the PLIDA exam? The PLIDA (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri) Test certifies competency in Italian as a foreign language. It is officially recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Ministry of Work and Social Policies, and the Italian Ministry of the Interior. The PLIDA exam is also the only recognized Italian language certification needed for the application for Italian citizenship.


How long does it take to reach a full B1 level? It usually takes 2 years for a total beginner to reach the B1 level, technically 200 hours. It also depends on how much the student is able to practice the language and to study, and the lenght of language learning differ from student to student


How to enrol for the PLIDA exam? To enrol for the PLIDA exam you have just to fill the enrollment form with your details, write your full name as in your passport, then send it back to us, and make the payment as specified in the form. How is the exam structured? How long does the PLIDA exam last for? There are four sections, one for every linguistic skill: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Please find some examples of the PLIDA exam on this page.  The morning is dedicated to do the written part, then the oral exam starts at 12.30. Please allocate a day for the exam.

  • Listening – 3o min
  • Reading – 4o min
  • Writing – 6o min
  • Speaking – 15 min
  • Total – 145 min

If you fail a session, what does it happen? To pass the exam you need to achieve a minimum of 18 out of 30 points for each of the four session. If you do not pass all sessions, you have eighteen months, since the first test, to repeat any single session in other dates.


When will the exam results arrive? The results will arrive within 60 days from the exam date. If you wish to get it earlier, you can ask for an Urgent correction “correzione urgente” with an additional cost. In that case, the results should arrive from Rome in two, three weeks.


How will you receive the PLIDA certificate? The original certificate can be picked up at La Dante in Cambridge (The Lodge, Hawthorn Way, Cambridge – UK CB41BT) or received by mail at the address you inserted in the enrolment form.

Italian courses

What kind of courses does La Dante offer? And for which levels? We offer a good range of options: long-term courses, one-week intensive courses, one-to-one tuition and Skype lessons. At La Dante, we offer more than just language and run classes for every level:  Beginner, False Beginners, Improvers I, Improvers II, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced.


How long are the courses? We offer 13-week courses, 12-week course, Intensive week courses and a package of 10 one to one tuition. The student can enroll for the long-term courses even if the Term has already started.


What is the cost to enroll for an Italian course? The cost is £12 per hours for the group long term courses, and £37 per hours for the one to one tuition. There is also a yearly registration fee of £60 to become a La Dante member.

What is our teaching approach?  Our teachers are all native Italian qualified teachers and run only small classes, with groups of a maximum of 8 people per class, which ensure a high level of individual attention. They  using a communicative approach, which helps our students to improve their communicative skills for travel, study and work, and to enhance their understanding of Italian culture.


What about the one to one tuition? We also offer one-to-one tuition, that is very tailored to the student’s needs and learning objectives as well as their timetable. They are run here at La Dante, in Hawthorn Way C41BT with the possibility to do some skype sessions when necessary. 


Why become La Dante members? As we are a cultural association, we offer our students a mixture of language and culture, involving them in cultural eventsfree conversation classes and a film club we run once a month, and giving the opportunity to borrow Italian books and DVDs from our library. Furthermore they have the opportunity to listen to our trilingual show Radio Dante where we also broadcast Italian music. 


What about the Intensive course?  Our courses are exactly what you need if you are planning to travel to Italy and you finally want to be able to ask for directions, order your favourite ravioli or spaghetti alla marinara, go shopping for fancy Italian shoes and enjoy an aperitivo al fresco in the main piazza.
