A B1 Italian level is needed to apply for Italian citizenship. To find out what a B1 level corresponds to, please have a look here at the language scale of the European Council.
The PLIDA (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri) Test certifies competency in Italian as a foreign language. It is officially recognised by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Ministry of Work and Social Policies, and the Italian Ministry of the Interior.
If you wish to enrol to our B1 Italian citizenship courses or find out more on how to take the exam, please contact us.
The Italian Exams certificates:
The PLIDA certificate is an official Diploma issued by La Dante in Cambridge, a PLIDA certified centre in the UK. It is the official certificate required by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to obtain Italian citizenship. It is recognised by the Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Policies as a qualification to prove proficiency in the Italian language for foreigners.
The PLIDA certificates attest proficiency in Italian as a foreign language on a 6-level scale according to the parameters established by the CEFR, the Common European Framework for Languages (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2). Candidates may choose to take an exam at the level they feel is closest to their proficiency.
The syllabus and many other materials, e.g. admission tests to verify the level of proficiency in Italian and trial exams, are available online on the PLIDA webpage. Look out for ‘Prove d’esame (past exam papers).
Please note that the exams are scheduled on fixed dates by the PLIDA administration in Rome and are the same for all Certifying Centres. The exam will take place at the Wesley Methodist Church in Cambridge (Christ Piece CB1 1LG),
