English for Work

ENGLISH FOR WORK

BEGINNER LEVEL: 16th January – 8th March 2017, every Monday and Wednesday, 7:00-9:00 p.m. (seven weeks) (half term 13th – 17th February)

Entry level: no knowledge of English

Main learning outcomes:

  • improve communication skills with staff and chefs, managers
  • listening skills
  • write emails, answer phone calls, talk to delivery people, order food
  • build up ad hoc vocabulary for the kitchen, restaurant, kitchen tools
  • polite forms in English

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: 17th January-10th March 2017, every Tuesday and Friday, 7.30:9.30 p.m. (seven weeks) (half term 13th – 17th February)

Main learning outcomes:

  • improve communication skills, better communication with customers and staff
  • write correct emails, writing skills
  • telephone skills, listening skills
  • problem solving at work
  • work based vocabulary for the kitchen
  • better communication with staff
  • case scenarios within restaurants to deal with
  • deal with complaints

Teaching method:

  • combination of frontal lessons with active learning (ex. class discussions, group work, role plays, etc.) and practice exercises to improve the four basic language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing);
  • small class sizes which facilitate learners’ progress;
  • Pre- and post- course tests to evaluate students’ improvement.
English for Beginners & Intermediate/Upper intermediate

BEGINNER COURSE

Seven weeks: 12th September – 28th October 2016, every Monday and Wednesday 7:00-9:00 p. m. The course will keep on in January 2017

Entry level: no knowledge of Englishsmallgroup

  •  discuss topics related to the family
  •  describe every-day life
  • consolidate  grammar and vocabulary.

Teaching method:

  • combination of frontal lessons with active learning (ex. Class discussions, group work, role plays, etc.) and practice exercises to improve the four basic language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing);
  • small class sizes which facilitate learners’ progress;
  • Pre- and post- course tests to evaluate students’ improvement.

INTERMEDIATE/UPPER INTERMEDIATE COURSE

Seven weeks: 13th September – 27th October 2016, every Tuesday and Thursday 7:00-9:00 p. m. The course will keep on in January 2017

Entry level: at least two years of English

Learning outcomes:

  • interact fluently and construct more complex sentences;
  • write interesting articles and discuss short stories;
  • consolidate your knowledge of advanced grammar (ex. subjunctive, reported speech, etc.) and vocabulary;
  • improve your knowledge of British work ethics and society.

Teaching method:

  • combination of frontal lessons with active learning (ex. class discussions, group work, role plays, etc.) and practice exercises to improve the four basic language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing);
  • small class sizes which facilitate learners’ progress;
  • Pre- and post- course tests to evaluate students’ improvement.

I think the courses are excellent. I find the themed conversational style on cultural topics has improved my confidence in spoken English. The discussions have helped stretch my vocabulary. The underpinning with grammar is useful and is at about the right level as far as the amount of time spent on it.
